# Blender

The Layer add-on generates game assets from the scene you are working in. It needs Blender 4.5 or later. Get it from [layer.ai/integrations/blender](/integrations/blender).

## What it does

* **Images**: a new image on a plane, a seamless texture as a material on the selection, or a panorama as the world’s environment.
* **Meshes**: text to mesh, and image to mesh from a file or from what the viewport shows.
* **The selected mesh**: retexture, remesh, UV unwrap, segment into parts, rig, animate.
* **Video**: a clip from a description, or from an image or the viewport, playing on a plane with the timeline.
* **Your animation**: render the scene’s animation through the scene camera or the viewport, then restyle it from a description, or have the character in an image perform it (**Motion to video**). The clip is trimmed to what the chosen model reads.
* **The agent**: describe a change to the scene and it reads the scene and makes the change for you. It asks before it runs code for the first time in a session.

Every result lands in a Layer session that the `.blend` remembers, so a teammate who opens the file works in the same one, and everything is also in the Layer web app. Images are saved beside the `.blend` and referenced with relative paths; meshes are imported as real geometry.

Open the **Layer** tab in the 3D viewport’s sidebar (press N) and choose **Sign in**. Your browser opens, you sign in with your Layer account, and the add-on picks up the session. Then pick a workspace.

On a machine with no browser, choose **Sign in with a code** and enter the code it shows on any other device.

Note

For unattended use, set the `LAYER_API_KEY` environment variable to a personal access token before starting Blender. The sidebar shows when the add-on is signed in with a key.

## Generate

Click the Layer button at the bottom left of any 3D viewport to open the panel. Pick a tool, write a prompt, and choose a model at the bottom left; the cost in [Creative Units](/docs/creative-units) is estimated before anything runs.
