Meet Shay Pomeroy: Marketer & Games Industry Veteran

As we enter a new year, we’re laser focused on expanding Layer into more game studios than ever before. To this end, it’s critical we bring more games industry veterans onto the Layer team, people who have worked directly with development teams and been at the forefront of major launches.

We’re excited to announce the newest addition to #TeamLayer - Shay Pomeroy, joining as our Director of Marketing.

Shay is a marketing communications professional with over a decade of experience in the games industry, primarily at Electronic Arts, BioWare, and Unity. He brings a unique perspective, having been on point for the launch of marquee titles like Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and EA SPORTS NHL & UFC. This was followed by roles in competitive gaming, and most recently at Unity as the campaigns lead for Unity Gaming Services & multiple key Unity products across AI.

Shay’s specialty as a marketer is working closely with engineering/product teams to build out Integrated campaigns - a combo of marketing and comms across varied channels. With his last tenure at Unity, Shay has a deep understanding of the challenges that developers face from a tools perspective, and what they need to be successful. This was driven home by his role as the content marketing lead across +15 Unity products, including Unity Sentis (AI), LiveOps, and Multiplayer tools.

Combined with his consumer experience at major game publishers, this paints a picture across audiences and disciplines - flexibility needed for a startup like Layer.

Outside of the professional games space, Shay is a lifetime gamer with thousands of hours in games like Warcraft (H), Civilization, Rimworld, League of Legends (TFT), Starcraft, and basically every shooter available. He lives with his wife and cat in Vancouver, Canada and is known to enjoy astronomy, cooking, wine, and travel outside of the nerd hobbies.

As the marketing lead for Layer, Shay will focus on creating high-quality content for developers - everything from tutorials to customer stories. This is alongside campaigns designed to showcase the power of Layer to more studios across the globe.

As Layer continues to grow in 2025, the team will start growing out more and more, adding value for our partner game studios outside of the core tools. Shay will be a big part of these efforts, and we’re excited to see the changes he brings to the team.
