About Live Play Mobile

Live Play Mobile is at the forefront of gaming innovation blending live broadcasting, social gaming, and interactive play into one seamless experience.

Based in Los Angeles , they’re the market leader in live-hosted mobile games. Their flagship title, Live Play Bingo, is the first and best live-streaming bingo game, running 24/7 with real hosts broadcasting from LA and London. With a team of gaming, TV, and live-streaming veterans, they’re redefining what mobile entertainment can be.

Keeping up with the Collectables

Live Play Mobile is always looking for ways to push mobile gaming forward, blending live entertainment with interactive gameplay. In Live Play Bingo, one of the game’s biggest draws is its themed animal collectibles, which players accumulate while playing bingo, released every few days as part of ongoing live ops events. Each set of unique characters includes several custom-designed animals, plus silhouettes, backgrounds, and a collection logo - constantly refreshing the game with new content for players to earn. These are then promoted on social media and other channels to keep players constantly engaged.

With hundreds of themed collection sets already produced, each containing 10 or more unique animals, players had thousands of animals to collect. While players love the constant updates - keeping up this pace of content production was time consuming. The team was researching ways to speed up asset creation while maintaining the game’s art style and high quality standards. Having seen AI workflows used successfully at other studios, they began exploring AI-driven solutions that could fit their needs.

Layer stood out as a model-agnostic platform with tools built specifically for gamedevs, offering the flex and control needed to take some of the pressure off the team without compromising on quality.

“We managed to reduce the production time of collection asset creation from 4 days to 1 day with a new process leveraging Layer’s platform, plus some quick overpaints and changes in Photoshop.” - Niko Vananda, 2D Artist, Live Play Mobile

Building Scalable Pipelines (with AI)

To keep up with the rapid pace of Live Play Bingo’s collectible drops, the team needed a quicker way to generate game assets while maintaining their established style. Using FLUX on Layer, they trained two distinct custom AI styles specifically for character art - one for animal heads and another for full-body poses

Training these models required a solid dataset, so the team leveraged the extensive library of existing game assets per style to ensure consistency. Keeping a neutral gray background helped the AI focus on the core details of each character, making it easier to generate assets that fit into Live Play Bingo’s world.

With these trained styles, the team could now generate new collectibles in just a fraction of the time, while still keeping them on-brand. After generation, artists could export everything as layered PSDs and fine-tune the assets in Photoshop, ensuring the final pieces were polished and ready to publish in-game.

This hybrid workflow sped up production without sacrificing creative control - a crucial factor for maintaining quality in a live game that constantly evolves.

“We aim to go beyond just improving the timing and volume of new content. We also want to improve and optimize the initial concept creation part of game production and use Layer to get an early visual feel of the sets.” - Vlad Kryvoborodov, VP of Product, Live Play Mobile

Training AI for Themed Backgrounds

With character collectibles successfully streamlined, the next step was creating backgrounds that matched Live Play Bingo’s ever-changing themes. Using FLUX on Layer, the team built a custom style trained on a variety of in-game scenes, including holiday events like Valentine’s Day and Halloween, seasonal themes like Summer Road Trip and Sand Castles, and other liveops-driven content.

These weren’t just static backdrops - they helped bring the game’s collectible sets together into a cohesive visual experience. Whether it was a spooky graveyard for a Halloween-themed animal set or a sunny beach for a summer event, the new backgrounds ensured that every content drop felt like part of a bigger event.

Beyond the game itself, these backgrounds also gave the Live Play Mobile team flexibility for marketing and social media content. With AI speeding up production, they could quickly generate themed assets for promotions, special events, and live ops announcements - keeping both the game and marketing pipelines fresh with new content.

Results & Looking Ahead

We’re embracing AI across the organization to scale faster while maintaining the highest levels of quality our players expect. Layer helps us streamline production and empower our artists, making our operations more efficient without compromising creativity.” - Stuart Lewis-Smith, CEO & Founder, Live Play Mobile

By integrating Layer’s AI-powered workflows, Live Play Mobile scaled their asset production without compromising quality - with +10 new collections already made using Layer. What once required extensive manual work was now streamlined, allowing them to create hundreds of assets in a fraction of the time - all while keeping everything perfectly on-brand.

With custom-trained styles for characters and backgrounds, the team could quickly generate new collectible sets that fit seamlessly into Live Play Bingo’s vibrant world. This meant faster liveops updates, more content for players, and even more flexibility for marketing materials. In fact, the time required to create a full collection dropped from nearly four days to just one, depending on final iterations and polish.

Looking ahead, Live Play Mobile is continuing to push the boundaries of AI-assisted game development. As they refine workflows, they’re also exploring new asset types like 3D to see how AI can further enhance their pipeline.
