An edit for a game is never only the footage you captured. A launch trailer needs a shot of the gate the engine cannot render yet. A store video needs a still for the end card. A cutscene animatic needs something in the gaps before the real shots exist, and every social cut needs a riser, a hit and a line of voice-over. Each of those is too small to commission and too specific to find in a library.
The Layer plugin puts generation beside the Edit page. Describe the shot, pick from what comes back, and it lands on a new track at the playhead, ready to trim.
What it does on a timeline
Generate shots, stills and sound. Video for missing shots and transitions, images for end cards and title plates, audio for the sound effects and voice-over a cut needs. Every result is imported into a Layer bin and placed on a new track at the playhead, so your existing clips are never touched.
Edit what you are looking at. Use the current frame as it appears in the viewer, graded and composited, and change it with a prompt, reframe it for a vertical placement or raise its resolution. A clip the plugin placed can be read back and edited, reframed or upscaled as video.
Keep the work with the project. Sessions are bound to the Resolve project itself, so each project has one Layer session that follows it through renames. Generation runs on Layer's infrastructure rather than on your machine, so playback and renders are not competing with it.
Where it fits a game team
Trailers, store videos, cutscene previz and social cuts are all built on a timeline, and most of them are short a few shots on the day they are due. This plugin is for that gap: the supporting footage, stills and sound around the shots you have, made inside the edit that needs them. For DaVinci Resolve Studio 19 and newer on macOS and Windows.
